How to Create a Strong Password

A strong password should meet all three of these criteria:

Over eight characters
Combines letters, numbers and symbols
Easy for you to remember, but difficult for others to guess

Choose a Long Phrase

Ask not what your country can do for you ...
To be or not to be, that is the question
We have nothing to fear but fear itself

Make all (or some) of the following substitutions

For the word "are", use "r"
For the word "be", use "b"
For the word "for", use 4
For the word "nothing", use 0 (zero)
For the word "to", use 2
For the word "you" use "u"
For the word "we", use "v"
For any numbers, type the number
If permitted, use "&" for and, or "@" for at.

Make changes and pick the first letter of every word

"Ask not what your country can do for you" becomes : AnWyCcd4U
"To be or not to be, that is the question" becomes : 2bOn2BtItQ
"We have nothing to fear but fear itself" : Vh02FbFi

Tips and Tricks

Choose one long password for all sites : The best security would be to use a different long password at each site;
but that's nearly impossible to do. This is the second best solution.
Use Hotkeys Software : Keyboard software can enter a good long strong password with one key entry or click.

Reprogram a keyboard key : New keyboards allow you to reprogram some keys like MyHome/Back/Email/Cal key.
Change one to the password you want to use.
Check your password on Google : If it is a complicated strong password, it should not be found.

Traps

Do NOT use your username as the password.
Do NOT use "password" as your password.
Do NOT use your first name or last name as your password.
Do NOT use repeating or sequential numbers as password e.g. 1234567890, 22222222
Do NOT use dictionary words as passwords.
Do NOT use single "hacker phrases" as passwords e.g. "M1cr0$0ft" or "P@ssw0rd"
Do NOT write down the password on a post-it and stick it on the monitor.

Learn About Coffee

Know that coffee is a drug. Coffee has caffeine. Its chemical formula is C8H10N4O2. Its chemical name is 3,7-Dihydro-1,3,7-trimethyl-1H-purine-2,6-dione or 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine or 1,3,7-trimethyl-2,6-dioxopurine. Caffeine Chemistry shows a molecular diagram.
Know that caffeine is addictive. Regular use of upwards of 350 mg of caffeine a day causes physical dependence on the drug.
Caffeine effects the brain and the central nervous system, raises adrenaline levels, raises the production of the hormones cortisol, epinephrine and norepinephrine, is a diuretic (a substance or drug that tends to increase the discharge of urine). Coffee is acidic. and effects sleep (usually delays sleep onset, shortens overall sleep time, and reduces the "depth" of sleep).
Caffeine ingestion contributes to insulin resistance and impairs glucose and insulin homeostasis as part of the stress response.

Find Your Primary Reason

To live a healthier life : you don't have to join the majority of the population in regularly ingesting a socially acceptable addictive physiology-altering legal drug.
To save money : if you belong to the crowd of people who loudly and proudly proclaim their Starbucks habit, I suggest you calculate the cost of the habit. A couple of lattes every work day is 2 x $6 x 200 = $1200. You could buy a brand new iPod every quarter or a brand new laptop every year or visit Europe on a vacation. Visualize your reward. Print out a photograph of your chosen toy or vacation spot and keep it visible at all times to remind yourself of what you are working towards.

Strategies

Gradually reduce the amount : Every week, reduce the number of coffee cups by one. 4 cups a day in the first week, 3 in the second, 2 in the third, 1 ine the fourth. Caffeine-free in one month!
Gradually halve the amount : Every week, halve the number of coffee cups. e.g. 4 cups a day in the first week, 2 in the second, 1 in the third, Caffeine-free in three weeks!
At home gradually reduce the coffee : When making your coffee in a drip machine every morning, gradually use less than what you normally use until it's so weak you can stop altogether.
Switch to tea: Tea has lower amounts of caffeine. Every week, switch over one of your coffee breaks to tea. Upon successful transition to tea, repeat the process to transition to caffeine-free tea.

What to Expect

Withdrawal Symptoms : Some of the common withdrawal symptoms include headache, fatigue or drowsiness, depression or irritability, difficulty in concentrating, flulike symptoms including nausea, muscle pain, and stiffness. You will experience some or all of these symptoms depending on your addiction level.

Tips and Tricks

Sleep : get ample quality regular sleep while you are transitioning to your caffeine-free state.
Morning Exercise : aerobic exercise, like cycling, produces endorphins and starts your day on a natural high.
Step Outside : make it a ritual to go outside and deep breathe fresh air in the morning.
Orange Juice : coffee is a habit. Replace the habit with a small glass of orange juice.
Eat Breakfast : a grain or oats based (low glycemic index) breakfast will keep your brain nourished for the morning.
Avoid Sugary Breakfast: avoid donuts or high sugar muffins; they cause a rapid buildup and slump in your blood sugar levels.
Afternoon Snack: keep an apple or banana or a handful of cashew nuts ready for the mid-afternoon snack time instead of coffee.
Drink More Water: carry a water bottle around and take sips regularly.

Healthy Coffee Alternatives

Rocamojo : soy-based coffee.
Soyfee : another soy-based coffee.
Teeccino : herbal non-caffienated coffee.
Chicory root (Cichorium intybus) : has long been used in the southern US as a coffee substitute.
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale): is second only to chicory as a coffee substitute.
Warm Soy-Milk or Rice-Milk : part of the addiction is the need for a warm liquid; try milk or milk substitutes.

pointless waste of time that is sorting socks:

(1) Throw out all your old socks (or donate them, if they're presentable).

(2) Decide what color socks you need. The fewer colors the better.
I've gone minimalist-retro: there's the black socks, and there's the
white socks, and that's it.

(3) Purchase large quantities of socks in those colors. You can get
different brands/makes for each color, as long as all socks of the
same color are exactly the same.

(4) Just dump the socks in your dresser drawer as is from the clean
wash -- don't sort or pair them. When you need a pair, grab any two of
the same color -- they're guaranteed to match!

This approach also conveniently guarantees that The Missing Sock that
got eaten by the laundry machine won't unbalance a pair, too.

But sleep deprivation impairs spatial learning � including remembering how to get to a new destination. And now scientists are beginning to understand how that happens: Learning spatial tasks increases the production of new cells in an area of the brain involved with spatial memory called the hippocampus. Sleep plays a part in helping those new brain cells survive.

A team of researchers from the University of California and Stanford University found that sleep-restricted rats had a harder time remembering a path through a maze compared to their rested counterparts. And unlike the rats that got enough sleep, the sleep-restricted rats showed reduced survival rate of new hippocampus cells.

In a legal case being watched closely by bloggers, an Internet company has sued the owner of a Web log for comments posted to his site by readers.
Traffic-Power.com sued Aaron Wall, who maintains a blog on search engine optimization � tactics companies use to get themselves to appear higher in searches at Google, Yahoo and elsewhere � alleging defamation and publication of trade secrets. The suit, filed in a Nevada state court earlier this month, also listed as defendants several unnamed users of the blog.
At issue are statements posted in the comments section of Mr. Wall's blog, SEOBook.com. Many blogs allow readers to post comments, often anonymously, and Mr. Wall's blog included several reader submissions that blasted tools sold by Traffic-Power.com.
Traffic-Power.com said in the suit that confidential information about the company has been published on the blog, and it accused Mr. Wall of publishing 'false and defamatory information,' but it didn't identify any of the material in question.
Legal analysts said the case falls into somewhat murky legal territory, but that Mr. Wall may have some protection from liability under federal law. Courts generally have held that the operators of computer message boards and mailing lists cannot be held liable for statements posted by other people. Blogs might be viewed in a similar light, they said.

Men who are accused of never listening by women now have an excuse -- women's voices are more difficult for men to listen to than other men's, a report said.
The Daily Mail, quoting findings published in the specialist magazine
NeuroImage, said researchers at Sheffield university in northern England discovered startling differences in the way the brain responds to male and female sounds.
Men deciphered female voices using the auditory part of the brain that processes music, while male voices engaged a simpler mechanism, it said.
The Mail quoted researcher Michael Hunter as saying, 'The female voice is actually more complex than the male voice, due to differences in the size and shape of the vocal cords and larynx between men and women, and also due to women having greater natural 'melody' in their voices.
'This causes a more complex range of sound frequencies than in a male voice.'
The findings may help explain why people suffering hallucinations usually hear male voices, the report added, as the brain may find it much harder to conjure up a false female voice accurately than a false male voice.

Prolacta Bioscience, a small company just outside Los Angeles, also wants to carry out research to develop breast milk-based therapies.
Breast milk, with its minerals, digestive enzymes and antibodies, has long been credited with keeping babies healthy and boosting intelligence.
But experts said it would put pressure on mothers to sell their milk.
Until now breast milk donation in the US and UK has largely been confined to a handful of non-profit milk banks that collect milk on a local basis to provide it to premature and sick infants whose mothers struggle to breast feed.

In Boise, staff members of the Idaho Potato Commission gave one another gleeful high-fives when they heard the news. In Houston, the folks at the U.S. Rice Producers' Assn. declared 'good riddance.' And fruit farmers in California's Central Valley said they were 'happy to see them go.'
Across the nation, producers of carbohydrate-laden food exulted at the decision by Atkins Nutritionals Inc., the Ronkonkoma, N.Y.-based designer of the once-popular low-carbohydrate weight-loss program, to file for bankruptcy protection.
The company said it planned to reorganize and focus mainly on selling nutrition bars and shakes. But analysts and nutritionists said Atkins' bankruptcy filing effectively signaled the demise of the low-carb lifestyle and an era when tens of millions of Americans embraced high-protein diets rich in meat and cheese while eschewing carbohydrates and sugars in grains, fruits and vegetables.
'It just proves that what Atkins was trying to do was just too extreme,' said Jeff Yankellow, a South San Francisco baking instructor and winner of the World Cup of Baking in Paris in April. 'Bread has survived as a nutritional food for thousands of years, and Atkins isn't going to kill it.'
In court papers, the company indicated that it was a victim of fierce competition from large food companies such as Unilever, Kraft Foods Inc. and General Mills Inc., which in the last few years rolled out their own lines of low-carb food.

In their battle against the bulge, desperate dieters have tried drugs, surgery, exercise, counseling, creams and even electrical fat-burning belts.
Now some psychologists have a new idea: subtle brainwashing.
A team led by psychologist Elizabeth F. Loftus of UC Irvine found that it could persuade people to avoid fattening foods by implanting unpleasant childhood memories about them � even though the memories were untrue.
In a paper published today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the team said it successfully turned people off strawberry ice cream and, in earlier studies, it had done the same with pickles and hard-boiled eggs � in each case by manipulating the subjects to believe that the foods made them sick when they were children.
The scientists say they have also successfully implanted positive opinions about asparagus by convincing subjects that they once loved the vegetable.
The method, if perfected, could induce people to eat less of what they shouldn't and more of what they should, Loftus said. Good memories about fruits and vegetables could be implanted, as well as bad ones about low-nutrient, high-calorie foods.
In the strawberry ice cream experiment, Loftus and her team asked 131 students to fill out forms about their food experiences and preferences, including questions about strawberry ice cream. The subjects were then given a computer analysis of their responses that was supposed to indicate their true likes and dislikes.

South Korean researchers said yesterday that they have created the world's first cloned dog: a playful black, tan and white Afghan hound named Snuppy.
The puppy, grown from a single cell taken from the ear of a 3-year-old male Afghan, marks a milestone in the race to fabricate genetically identical dogs for research and as companion animals.
The process of dog cloning remains highly inefficient, a reflection of how much scientists still have to learn about how to make mammalian offspring from single parents and without the help of sperm. Multiple surgeries on more than 100 anesthetized dogs and the painstaking creation of more than 1,000 laboratory-grown embryos led to the birth of just two cloned puppies -- one of which died after three weeks.
But the feat suggests that a market in cloned dogs, through which people grieving the loss of their favorite pets could order genetic duplicates, may not be as futuristic as some had thought. And by leapfrogging a seven-year-old, multimillion-dollar U.S. effort, the success has clinched South Korea's quickly growing reputation as a premier center for cloning and stem cell research.
Cloned dog embryos could make available the first canine versions of embryonic stem cells. Researchers could then test stem cell therapies that have been proposed for people and, perhaps, cure some dog diseases along the way.

Amphetamines, including the party drug Ecstasy, have reversed the effects of Parkinson's disease in mice, researchers said on Wednesday.
Their finding does not suggest the use of now-illegal drugs to treat the incurable brain disease, but may offer a way forward in helping patients, they said.
The team at Duke University in North Carolina treated mice that were genetically modified to suffer from Parkinson's-like symptoms with more than 60 types of amphetamines.
Fourteen of the drugs helped reverse the symptoms of the mice, including the tremors and rigidity that mark the disease -- raising the possibility of exploring related treatments for humans.
'We hope to find new drugs that are close chemically, but safe,' Marc Caron, who led the research, said in a telephone interview.
Parkinson's disease is caused by the death of brain cells that control physical movement and produce the essential chemical dopamine.
According to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, there are about 1.5 million Americans with the disease.
The new research shows that dopamine replacement, so far the most common, but only partly effective Parkinson's treatment, may not be the only viable option, Caron said.
Amphetamine-like drugs, not unlike those now given to children with attention deficit disorder, could eventually be used for Parkinson's, he said.
'We give these drugs in low doses to children, so it's not so terrible to say some day we should give similar drugs to Parkinson's patients,' Caron said.
The effects of another stimulant, coffee, have been cited in the past as easing Parkinson's symptoms by keeping dopamine levels high.
But Caron said coffee is only effective in early stages of the disease, when some dopamine
